Treatment Of Leukaemia

One of the major functions of the body is to make hundreds of blood cells every day. These blood cells are going to be red blood cells, white blood cells and blood platelets. The red blood cells carry oxygen from one part of the body to another. The white blood cells can be considered as the white hats of a body, being the soldiers to protect it from diseases.

The white blood cells consist of monocytes, eosinophils, basophils and neutrophils. These are quite capital of checking any virus or germ attack from outside. Leukaemia normally starts in the cells that make White blood cells. They start functioning abnormally and start multiplying unchecked. They destroy all the healthy cells around them and take their places.

As they are supposed to be the soldiers, the body has no way of protecting its own self, when the soldiers mutiny. That is the reason why cancer had spread from one part until another, because the body has no resources to prevent the cancer from spreading. That is the reason why the treatment of leukaemia has to be done by external methods.

The blood cells are normally made in the bone marrow. When this abnormal behaviour starts occurring in the bone marrow, especially in the white blood cells, there is a chance that the cancerous cells are going to enter the bloodstream. When that happens, the disease spreads to other parts of the body. Medicine, treatments, chemotherapy, and other treatments for leukaemia are proposed according to the specific type of leukaemia which can be of these major varieties -- ALL, AML, CML and CLL.
