Chronic lymphocytic Leukaemia
Leukaemia is a type of blood disease, which occurs when the healthy cells of the bone marrow start multiplying indiscriminately. This is due to the presence of an aberration in the shape of a defective chromosome named Philadelphia in the body. Not only is the normal cell function disturbed, but this uninterrupted multiplication of cells can become very dangerous for the body.
That is because it is necessary that the body produce a fixed number of red blood cells and white blood cells every day. However, the moment it started producing these unhealthy cancerous cells, there is a reduction in the number of the normal and healthy blood cells.
That means the body does not have any other method of protecting itself from infection and diseases. It also means that the white blood cells are now going to take the form of the immature cells that are useless. This disease is called leukaemia, and it manifests itself with symptoms like fewer, infection, headaches and fatigue among other symptoms.
There are two types of leukaemia, chronic leukaemia and acute leukaemia. Chronic leukaemia takes a long time to manifest itself. When this leukaemia started having an effect upon the lymphocytic cells of the body, which might function properly for a long time, this disease is known as chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. It is only when all the lymphocytes stop reproducing themselves and there is a complete lymphocyte production shut down that this disease becomes very dangerous and life threatening. Immediate diagnosis and treatment is the only way to try to stop this disease from progressing further.
